Meet Akosua
Born to Jamaican parents, Akosua devoured numerous books in her early years, developing a fascination for sci-fi and fantasy. As a child, her parents could be seen leaving their local public library toting crates of books they hoped would last through the week ahead. Usually, they didn’t.
After stumbling across an intriguing 2019 news article about an actual deep-sea base being built in the South China Sea, she began penning Monmouth Deep. She has also researched numerous documented encounters with UAPs and USOs (‘unidentified submerged objects’) reported by members of the US military/intelligence community, as well as civilian eyewitnesses.
Her abiding fascination for both the subject of First Contact, and the rapidly-evolving media perception of potential extraterrestrial life, have only grown the more she’s written about it.
She resides in North Carolina with her family, where she’s busily building the next story arc, or penning how-to articles about the craft of fiction-writing for MEDIUM.com. Her work was featured by the Medium Handbook in this viral 2025 post. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, taking family road-trips to the seaside, and co-writing short, humorous stories (including Victorian-era comedies) with her sister.
